We empower nurses and health professionals with knowledge, skills and confidence to manage their development in health care and to uphold nursing standards in patient care.
OBSERVE
-
Nurses learn through Observation which is the process of learning through watching others.
-
During the workshop, the individual will receive knowledge from a reputable source, taught in a manner conducive to learning and as a result be able to retain that knowledge and skill through ongoing evaluation and assessment.
-
The individual will be given the opportunity to observe the relevant skill being performed according to the relevant Scope of Practice in the case of medical practitioners, by a skilled, proficient and knowledgeable mentor.
-
Only once found competent in the skill, will the individual be allowed to move onto the next phase of learning.
PARTICIPATE
-
Participation involves creating an environment where the individual is able to perform the task observed within a safe and conducive, learning environment.
-
It includes the opportunity to effectively communicate during the workshop based on the knowledge they obtained during the observation phase.
-
This phase is essential as it equips the individual with the confidence to perform these tasks once outside of the workshop.
-
Only once found competent in the skill on a practical level, will the individual be allowed to move onto the next phase of learning.
TEACH
-
This phase includes the ability to teach another what was learned and perfected in the first 2 phases of learning.
-
It involves the individual teaching a skill in which excellence has been achieved and has been assessed and monitored by a mentor.
-
On accreditation, the individual is now required to teach this skill to fellow colleagues either during the workshop or during advanced mentoring outside of the workshop.
-
Observation, Participation and Teaching is an age-old method of learning, which has proven to be extremely effective in the medical field for both medical and surgical doctors as well as nurses of all categories.
